We encourage all ages to learn to swim!

Swimming lessons are great for many reasons and are for all ages! They help learn proper technique to advance with swimming, they assist as part of a fitness routine, and they help maintain the skills learned in previous swim classes. If you are unsure of what level to sign your child up for, please contact Kay Smith, Heath & Wellness Director, to schedule a swim test.

Skipper Swim Lessons (children ages 3-5 years, not in K)

Private Swim Lessons

Private Swim Lessons are a one on one instruction for anyone ages, levels and abilities. Our instructors will assist you in learning basic swimming fundamentals as well as working on technique for seasoned swimmers. Please call the YMCA to set up a lesson.

Welcome Dolphins!!!

Competitive swimming, like all YMCA programs, is a tool to help people develop in spirit, mind, and body. Developing skills and achieving are secondary to pursuing the YMCA Mission, which is "to put Christian Principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all."

The program is intended to build concepts of teamwork, sportsmanship, and self-confidence. More importantly, the Ottawa YMCA Dolphins Swim Team seeks to install the four pillars of Character established by the national YMCA: Honesty, Respect, Responsibility, and Caring.

The Ottawa YMCA Dolphins Swim Team is open to children ages Kindergarten to 18 years of age, boys and girls. The season runs from October through March. Practices are throughout the week with meets/invitationals on the weekends. If you would like more information on participating on the Dolphins Swim Team, please contact Kay Smith at 815-433-2395.

Fitness

Adult Sports are a great way to meet new people and stay active. The Ottawa YMCA currently offers a variety of Adult Sports Programs, and we are always coming up with different ideas.

**The following sports are open to adults, high school age and older, unless otherwise noted.

 

Co-Ed Wallyball League

Held on Thursdays at 6:00 pm- 8:00pm. 7 week session.Get a team together and enjoy a fun, fast moving action oriented game!

Members:$14, N/M $21

 

 

Open Volleyball

Held on Tuesday nights from 7:00pm-9:00pm.

Members :Free

N/M Guest Fees Apply

Racquetball/Wallyball

For court use only is NC for members and $5 for nonmembers. If a guest fee is paid, courts are included at no extra cost.

 

Additional Health & Wellness Classes

Welcome to the start of a new you! Health and Wellness classes are a great way to keep motivated! Join a class today, and meet new friends. Classes generally last one hour and they keep you moving! All classes provide both high and low impact options to accommodate every fitness level. Both land and water exercise classes are choreographed to music and led by an inspiring, motivating, qualified fitness instructor.

Which class is right for you?

Kickbox Aerobics: an energetic movement class that is faster paced than our step classes. It combines punching, jabbing and kicking to give you a great total-body workout.

Step Aerobics: is a choreographed cardio class including abdominals, weights, or resistance training. This class utilizes steps which can be adjusted for both high impact and low impact workouts.

Power Hour: is a group weight training class using music, dumbbells and a bench. It is a great way to get in a weight workout for those that don’t like lifting by themselves or if you want instruction on proper technique.

Zumba: is a Latin cardio dance party! This fun, high energy class works out your arms, legs and core, for a great workout. All ages and abilities welcome!

Zumba Toning (NEW) Combines targeted body sculpting execises with Zumba using light weight Maraca like toning sticks to enhance rhythm and tone target zones.

Yoga: is a mixture of yoga styles that combines stretching and poses which all fitness levels can benefit from.

Y Fusion: Boot Camp Style class fusing cardio, plyometrics, weights, core & yoga.

Gentle Yoga: is a very relaxing class for those that want to find some downtime in their busy lifestyle. This class is a wonderful stress relief.

Beginning Yoga: is a class to learn poses and yoga philosophy it is a slower paced class. Water Exercise- is a low impact aerobic class held in the shallow end of the pool. Uses noodles and water weights.

Lunch Bunch Zumba: 30 minutes of calorie burning energy.

Monday is low impact Zumba, Wednesday is step & weights, and Friday is group weight training & gentle yoga. Class is held at 11:00am to 12:00pm in the upper deck.
